Lunar Moo Year

Damo celebrated his first Chinese New Year this year, spending Monday visiting five houses with my family and collecting his first ang pows. Bonus 09, he jokingly called it. Well you can’t blame these bankers for feeling so! ;-) I cooked Moroccon meatballs and cous cous for my family’s traditional potluck lunch, contributing to a spread of food headlined by my aunt’s wonderful DIY popiah, plus nonya favourites like ayam buah keluak, hee pio soup, kueh pie tee and ngoh hiang, and some assam fish and mixed veg. I had a couple of my meatballs and a couple of rolls of popiah and a bowl of hee pio soup… twas heavenly!

On the second day we cycled 60km in the morn, then I worked, following which we had a BBQ at home with friends, giving the condo’s newly-installed pit a good greasing. We had sh*tloads of sausages and my home-made potato salad leftover. No prizes for guessing what I had for lunch today.

I just realised I haven’t eaten a pineapple tart at all this Chinese New Year. Hoorah!
