Poonarello

All it took was some gentle persuasion from Damo and I, and Poo was sold. Pity his beetle couldn’t fit his new Pinarello FP6 in, or he might have joined us for the ride this morning (joined, not necessarily stayed throughout… but more on that in a bit.) An initial budget of $2,000 for a first road bike just for exercise’s sake while his ITB heals was blown to $4,000 and then… a bit more for the Pina (I won’t mention how much he paid here, but trust me, it was worth every penny). In fact, the FP6 is really a mirror image of my Paris, just about half the price and maybe 100g heavier (due to the use of different carbon).

And onto the CycleWorx ride. Huge pack today, must have been about 40 people. I’m guessing getting back into shape was on many 2009 resolution lists. Faster riders that usually don’t join this Saturday morning ride also decided to have a spin with us today, causing the pace to be higher than usual and creating intermittent breakaways. At NTU, after the climb, I stopped to get drink to quench my super high sweat rate (since they started their no drink stop policy a couple of months back). Turns out the pack left without me. It really turned out to be a good thing in the end. Damo waited for me, and we decided to go back by a longer route (Woodlands, Admiralty rather than Mandai). As we spun along our legs started feeling better and better, and we reached home, ironically, less smashed than we would’ve been if we had followed the pack.

Our anniversary ride read 118km on the speedo. Thanks baby for following me on this journey so far, and here’s to many, many, many more years of burning thighs, wheezing lungs, dusty black faces, chain-marked calves, breakaways and getting dropped.

Poo, if you’re reading this, good luck when you join us next week. ;-)
