It was back to training for me this morning, albeit just an easy 55min run. I’ve learnt that I should never rush back into hard training after a hard race because that only digs you in a deeper hole of exhaustion. So, woke up at 6am and headed out the door down Holland Road past Gleneagles and Tanglin and Orange Grove, through Dalvey to Evans, then back up Holland again. Bumped into Vivian (Singapore’s fastest marathoner who started running cos she looked like a bah zhang in her early 20s) once again at Evans. I could spot her from a mile away, that familiar compact running style, eight-pack midriff, diminutive frame. “Good race,” she said to me as she passed, surprisingly not the least out of breath despite her pace. I wave and smiled, cos that’s all I could do for she was gone in a flash.
Maybe someday I’ll be able to run as fast as she does… respect, Viv!!
