Gunung raya

Ooh our legs are so tired but we are buoyed by a great sense of achievement having scaled the 881m high gunung raya this afternoon. We had a late breakfast then left the hotel at about 11.30am. It took about 25k of rolling hills to reach the base of langkawi’s tallest peak, which then took a further 14k to ascend. It was the longest climb i’d ever done and all i could think of was how the tour de france riders were superhuman cos they fly up mountains while i was crawling up like a snail! Damo was awesome though, he climbed up pretty fast then went back down to catch up with me (i had less than 2k to go at that point) and went up again. The view atop was a great reward as we rested for a bit before descending.
I hope the pictures below turn out. I’m blogging from my nokia n82 and linking the pix from twitpic.

We rode a total of 70k only but it was definitely intense. Didn’t help that i couldn’t engage my 27 cog (the derailleur kept rubbing against the spokes of my wheel) so climbed on the 25. On our way back we stopped by starbucks at the airport arrival hall for a drink and a snack then rode the 10k back to the hotel. Thankfully the weather was kind to us today! By 3pm there were nice overcast skies and low humidity.

Alright, we forgot to have lunch so really hungry now. Dinner time!
