Didn’t feel like meat today so stuck to veggie and tofu. But, if you had asked me as a 10-year-old to do that, I would never have been able to. My dad will attest, I loved my KFC. I was 120 per cent overweight in primary one. I was an active kid, being in the school gymnastic team, but always carried some extra baggage around. Mom used to bug me to eat my veg all the time, and I hated it. Even in secondary two and three, I used to skip training and eat McPeppers instead.
Everything changed, I think, when I started running seriously in my first year in junior college. Somehow the act of doing something healthy sparked off other healthy acts, like eating my greens. In my conversations with other runners, it is not uncommon to find that taking up the sport creates an entire lifestyle change. Late nights, unhealthy food, unhealthy habits… they all go out the door.
Breakfast today was two slices of PB&K toast; lunch, rice with two types of veg and tofu; fruit and a mini cake for tea; dinner, home-made veggie wraps.
