Monday. Blues? Hardly for me. I actually relish Mondays because that’s when I do my long easy run (it used to be Wednesday but it’s since changed due to work). For a day my legs get a break from intervals or tempo work, my heart beats comfortably, my lungs have a buffet of oxygen.

Rose at 5.30am this morn feeling fresh, thanks to an early night on Sunday (that I had to miss dinner with Damo and his visiting cousin). Rocked myself to sleep reading Cycle Sport. Anywyay, run went pretty well. I find myself having to remind my legs to slow down, to take it easy. It’s now accustomed to running fast, but on long runs that isn’t the idea. So I keep telling myself, slow, easy, slow, easy. Holland, sixth avenue, bukit timah… Soon I’ve reached the Istana, gone round the presidential abode and am headed for home along Orchard Road/Grange Road. Slow, easy, slow, easy. I take in the surroundings… From pitch darkness the sun is now breaking through the clouds. Kids getting packed onto school buses by their foreign helpers or parents. The traffic gets thicker and thicker with work-bound vehicles. The roar of motors breaks the beautiful silence of dawn. Past Dempsey, a little uphill, a down, another up, a traffic light, slightly down, a moderate climb, a long decline, and a final short hijl and I’m home, 1h 35min journey complete. Straight into the pool I go, my warm sweaty body now engulfed by cool and chlorine. A rush of blood. Bliss. My day has officially begun.
