Sleep in Saturday

No 5am wake up call today. After a whole week of it I decided it was time for a sleep in. Boy it was good waking up to sunshine and without the buzzing of the alarm. Took the lazy morning (exercise-wise) to do work — I know, not quite the restful Saturday, but at least the legs got a break even if the mind didn’t.

Went for an easy 10.5k run in the evening, turns out I am pretty tired as the pace was pretty slow and my heart rate was pretty high. Thankfully the weather was great. Oh well.

Topped it all off with a TRX session. Got chased away from the front door by dad, who saw that the TRX was yanking the grill awkwardly. So I went down to the playground and it was actually an enjoyable setting… other than for a bunch of screaming boys playing football. They couldn’t have been more than 10 years old, but they were saying eff-ing this and that, comparing the sizes of their wieners (I kid you not, one said: “He’s got a small cock”) and singing Justin Bieber tunes.

Thankfully there were the two cutest Indian kids in the world. A boy, probably about 4 or 5, and a girl, prolly 2 or 3, siblings. The boy comes up to me as I’m struggling through push ups and says: “Hello auntie, what are you doing?” First I get quite thrown off to be called ‘auntie’… but once over the shock I told him I was exercising. He walks away for a bit and when he returns he flips through my TRX guide book that’s lying on the floor and asks: “What’s this?” At this point I’m holding the plank position. “It’s the instruction book. See, I’m doing this, exercise 9.” He looks at the photo and then my position and goes, “oh yes”. I tell him that I’ve gone from exercise 1 to 9 and will go on to 10. At this point he flips the page, looks at the position (it’s a plank but you bring your knees to your elbows repeatedly) and says it’s the same. I tell him ‘no’ and show him to help him understand better. Then I ask: “Can you count to 10?” With gusto he proves that he can, flipping the book to exercise 1 and turning the page as he counts each one off. My elbows by this time had gathered quite a few little morsels of soft foam from the surface of the playground. The boy, curious as ever, asks what it is and I tell him. He then proceeds to dust it off from my arm for me. “Here also got,” he says, pointing to a final speck on my wrist before cleaning it off.

I’m done with my workout and pack up my stuff. “Do you come here everyday to play?” I ask. “YESSS!” he says, and I tell him I’ll see him again then. “Okay, bye bye!” he chirps, followed by a “bye bye” from his lil sis.

Thank you dad for chasing me down to the playground. Those kids really made my day. I came upstairs smiling to myself like an idiot.
